Your house is spring cleaned! Yea!
Now what?
Now you have to somehow maintain it.
If you’re like me, you’re looking around going, “I just cleaned the house! What happened??” I have two littles and so my house never really looks clean.
But I love opening my wardrobe and seeing everything neatly put away, or my kitchen cabinets that are clean and organized. Sadly, they rarely ever stay that way.
The easy part is breaking up spring cleaning into a month’s task that doesn’t seem so daunting. The hard part is maintaining that clean home daily, weekly and monthly.
The battle to stay balanced in my life as a work-at-home, homeschooling mom in the country is one that is a continual work in progress. There always seems to be more work than hours in the day. Add to that the unique dynamic we have with my husband working frequent graveyard shifts, which often interrupts my carefully laid plans.
I have spent months working and reworking my cleaning schedule until I have found a couple of options that help me stay on top of things.
Here are two ways I’ve found to keeping a tidy home:
Method #1: A Task A Day – this is how I used to clean my home and it worked really well for me for a long time. You can switch up the schedule to fit your family’s dynamic, but here is what mine looked like:
Monday – Laundry
Tuesday – Put clothes away
Wednesday – Clean house
Thursday – Cobwebs and organizing
Friday – Ironing
Method #2: A Room a Day – I have switched to this new method now that the weather is a little warmer and I hang my laundry to dry outside. Laundry takes a little longer now, but my housework still gets done and this even allows me to do more detail work.
Monday – Laundry / Clean bedrooms
Tuesday – Laundry / Clean bathroom
Wednesday – Clean living room and hall
Thursday – Clean mudroom
Friday – Iron / Clean kitchen
Right now I’m really loving method two. It works so well for my family!
